ANZAC Day in Melbourne

Updated: Dec 2, 2019

This past Wednesday was ANZAC Day. Which stands for Australia & New Zealand Army Crawl. Anzac Day; it is a national holiday that commemorates the first major military action by Australian and New Zealand troops during the first world war. Because of this I had the day off school, so a few friends and I flew to Melbourne.

Wednesday, ANZAC Day, was our first day in the city. Our first stop was the Eureka SkyDeck at the top of Melbourne’s tallest building. Eighty-eight stories up, the 360 views were stunning. From the Yarra river coursing through the city to the royal botanic gardens interrupting the CBD - we could see everything.

Our next stop was The Shrine of Remembrance - a WWI memorial and museum. There was a parade in honor of ANZAC Day and demonstrations and memorials throughout the museum just for the holiday. This wasn’t planned, but this was the perfect day to visit the shrine.

Later that afternoon we went to the iconic Brighton Beach just south of downtown. This beach is home of the colorful Brighton Bath Houses. We walked down the beach admiring the different colored buildings. After taking a few pictures and tipping our toes in the cold water we sat on the beach and watched the sunset.

We eventually Ubered back into the city for dinner. I had a great first day in Melbourne, and an amazing first ANZAC Day.
